Fatal fish in Sweden

Methane gas caused by rotting fish was believed to have caused the deaths by asphyxiation of two Lithuanian fishermen off southern Sweden.

The two were working in the hold of a fishing boat when they were overcome by the powerful fumes believed to have been generated by the catch of
sprat.

Despite a sizeable rescue operation, the two crew members could not be saved.
