All Blacks great Ma’a Nonu will face his former team after being named on the Sharks bench for Wednesday’s clash against Dave Rennie’s side.

Nonu joined the Sharks as a player mentor last week.

The two-time Rugby World Cup winner left Toulon where he became the oldest player to feature in the French Top 14, aged 44.

His All Blacks career ended in style, by scoring a try in the Rugby World Cup final victory over the Wallabies in 2015.

All Blacks squad member Siale Lauaki was born in May 2003, while Nonu made his Hurricanes debut in the 2003 season.

“Ma’a Nonu will spend the next few months in Durban as part of a high-performance mentorship programme designed to accelerate the development of the club’s next generation of players by exposing them to one of the most successful leaders in world rugby,” the Sharks said after announcing his role last month.

“Nonu joins the club primarily in a mentorship and leadership capacity, working alongside the coaching staff to support player development and strengthen the club’s high-performance culture.”
