Moreton Bay targets Canterbury businesses ahead of Brisbane 2032 Olympics

Canterbury businesses could get direct access to growth opportunities across the Tasman before the 2032 Olympics, as representatives from a fast-growing Australian city visit the region.
The “Unlock Your Australian Expansion” business breakfast will be held at the Christchurch Hall on October 27.
The event will showcase opportunities for Canterbury businesses to expand to the City of Moreton Bay before the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The city is already home to 1100 New Zealand-owned businesses and has an economy that is set to grow from $25 billion to $40b by 2041.
City of Moreton Bay Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway will lead the event, with representatives from Austrade and Trade and Investment Queensland also in attendance.

Shipway said the focus was on presenting practical opportunities for Canterbury businesses as part of their six-day visit to New Zealand.
“We know businesses value trusted relationships and practical support when entering a new market,” she said.
“That’s why we’re bringing our team to Christchurch to meet businesses face-to-face and support growth and investment between New Zealand and South East Queensland.
“We’re not simply inviting New Zealand businesses to consider Australia. We’re travelling here to help make that expansion journey easier.”
ChristchurchNZ chief executive Ali Adams welcomed the visit and said stronger transtasman business connections created value for businesses on both sides of the Tasman.
“City of Moreton Bay has demonstrated a progressive and innovative approach to supporting international business growth, and we’re pleased to welcome the delegation to Christchurch,” she said.
“Creating opportunities for businesses to connect directly, exchange ideas and explore new markets is an important part of building stronger economic outcomes for both Canterbury and South East Queensland.
“We encourage businesses to get along to the breakfast event on October 27.”

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said he was committed to helping New Zealand businesses navigate expansion opportunities with support to establish and successfully grow in Australia.
“We are prioritising relationships with New Zealand businesses because we share a long history of friendship, with our City providing the Warriors a home away from home during the 2022 NRL season, which was impacted by Covid,” he said.
“We are already home to a thriving and growing New Zealand community, with more than 1,100 New Zealand-owned [businesses] and 21,000 New Zealand-born residents.
“City of Moreton Bay is also the only Australian local government with a permanent New Zealand-based Trade and Investment Adviser based in Christchurch, supporting transtasman business growth.”
