A person’s body has been pulled from the water at Mangōnui.
Police received a report of a missing person shortly before 10pm last night.
“[Inquiries] began immediately and some searching happened overnight,” they said.
“Sadly, the missing person was located in the water off Waterfront Drive in the early hours of this morning.”
Meanwhile, on the Doubtless Bay Noticeboard on Facebook, a post was shared stating a rāhui (temporary ban) would be in place for a few days, out of respect for the deceased and their family.
The post advised people not to use the area for swimming and fishing until the rāhui was removed.
