A report of loud bangs and a person believed to be carrying a firearm led police to search a Wellington address this morning.

Police were notified of the incident at about 11.50am on Norway St, Aro Valley.

Senior Sergeant Mark Lewis said the report was made after a person was seen inside an address, holding an object which “resembled a firearm”.

Concerns were raised and police attended “immediately”, establishing a cordon in the area while inquiries were carried out.

“Staff were armed as a precaution,” Lewis said.

“Police were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided and no firearm was located.”

There have been no reports of any injuries.

Police are continuing to make inquiries into the incident.
