Police investigating the mysterious death of a 40-year-old Dunedin man say he suffered injuries consistent with an assault, but a post-mortem examination has not established how he died.

David Noah was found unresponsive on Leckhampton Court in Clyde Hill about 11pm on September 30.

Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hayden Smale said Noah’s death was unexplained.

“The postmortem did not give us a clear cause of death, however it appears the victim has sustained injuries consistent with assault.

“Our enquiries suggest someone was present in the moments leading up to the deceased’s death.”

Smale said police believe someone knows what happened to Noah and urged them to come forward.

“We are now directly appealing to those people. Do the right thing and speak to us.”

After Noah’s death, police cordoned off a section of Leckhampton Court near a motorway overpass and erected a blue tent on the road.

A neighbour told the Herald they had heard an altercation between 10pm and 11pm on the night Noah died.

They said police had been asking residents for CCTV footage.

Police previously appealed for information about any unusual or suspicious activity on Leckhampton Court between 10.30pm and 11pm on September 30, including dashcam or CCTV footage.
