Normanby armed police operation blocks South Taranaki SH3, two properties searched

Armed police blocked a section of highway in South Taranaki this morning as two properties were searched in an ongoing operation.
Police diverted cars travelling on State Highway 3 in Normanby, with footage from the scene showing officers posted inside and at the edge of the cordon.
Unmarked police cars were present, while locals reported seeing armed officers in the township.
One witness said the operation appeared to be centred around a house near the Normanby Primary School, with police officers seen near the back of the school and on the school field.
A police spokeswoman said officers were executing a routine search warrant in Hāwera in relation to an ongoing matter.
“Police were on scene at two addresses at approximately 9.30am and were armed as a routine precaution,” she said.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
