Coastguard rescues two people from sinking boat off Mangawhai coast

Coastguard crews raced to rescue two people aboard a sinking vessel north of Auckland overnight.
Coastguard Mangawhai said it responded to an “urgent boat call-out” after a vessel was reportedly sinking with two people on board last night.
Crews acted quickly, with Kokako Rescue underway within 15 minutes of the initial callout. They arrived at the stricken vessel within another 10 minutes.
Coastguard Mangawhai said when they reached the sinking craft the two people on board were in ankle-deep water.
They were transferred to Kokako Rescue, and after securing the stricken vessel, it was towed back into Mangawhai.
“Both the two crew and their vessel were safely brought back into the boat ramp, very happy to be ashore,” Coastguard Mangawhai said.
The spokesperson said it was a great outcome, with full credit to the Kokako crew for a job “extremely well done”.
